General Colloquium
March 1 - 4:00pm Phys 223 (Coffee at 3:30p.m. in room 242) Prof. Fuqiang Wang Title: "Searching for a New State of Matter: the Quark Gluon Plasma" |
| Abstract: RHIC, the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Lab, concluded last September its first-year running of Au+Au collisions at an unprecedented high energy of 130 GeV per nucleon pair. The primary goal of studying these collisions is to search for evidences of the existence of a new state of matter, the quark-gluon plasma. A significant number of results have be obtained from this first-year run by the four experiments at RHIC. These results allow one to project an approximate picture of these collisions. I will present these results and the emerging picture and discuss the relevance of these results to the on-going search for the quark-gluon plasma. |
