• Layer 1 / 2 first clamshell arrived Ithaca 9/8/99

STATUS OF CLAMSHELL #2

• Layer 1 / 2 second clamshell arrived in Ithaca 11/1/99

STATUS OF LAYER 3

• Final ladder was mounted last Thursday and tested fine last Friday. Layer 3 is complete as of October 29 1999.

• 26 ladders (260 wafers x2 L3)
• 100% diamond disassembled
• 100% diamond cleaned
• (10% of diamond was re-cleaned)
• From the above: 29 (need 26) v-beams fabricated, 21 of 29 certified.
• At least 5 more beams to be re-manufactured, therefore 20% of the layer 4 diamond was re-cleaned 10/28 with the standard procedure and an additional step (piranha) on Tuesday 11/2. After an overnight bake a new beam was made before lunch, will test Thursday.
• 17 ladders are made with diamond
• 0 ladders complete without diamond
• 16 ladders ready for mounting
• 1/26 ladders mounted, cables for testing from Jack O'Kane were fine, can be get two more sets for spares?
• Fraction of all processing complete : 72%

To complete L4 we need to build:

• 9 Full Ladders = 18 HL's mostly these are fully processed here is the breakdown:
• ready: HL512, HL540, HL545, HL546, HL552, HL553, HL554 (at CU), HL526, HL534, HL539 (now at PU) (total 10 was 7)
• three HL's completed p-side w.b. since last report: HL506, HL557, HL559 , now awaiting encapsulation

5HL need to be built, all wafer chains for these HL's are in process but starters not yet at Purdue

• WC455, WC456, WC458 are now tested after n-side wire-bonding and the first two also n-side encapsulated. Parts now ready for p-side wire-bonding
• 2 (1) WC's ready for starter: WC401,WC460

COMMENTS ON LAYER 4 HALF LADDERS

HL539 after p-side wire-bonding noisy channels, 47,12 n, p with n/p correspondence. Currents are normal. Can live with this if CU is happy. CU is now happy (11/1)and part is back at PU

HL534 high currents (60 micro n/p) due to crater bond-pad. Status: use as is

HL526 high current (20 micro n/p) no optical inspection yet status: use as is

HL512 special long p-strip wire status OK

HL559 cracked and repaired hybrid status OK

HL553 used extensively for vee testing status OK

HL554 fried at Purdue status OK

HL506 not able to readout at Purdue believed to be due to incompatibility with system status: use
