Here are a few examples of the ways in which your support can be put to use in the Department of Physics.

Physics Discretionary Fund

This interest-earning PRF fund is used to pay necessary university expenses that cannot be paid from university funds. Funds have been used to pay prospective graduate student expenses, meals and refreshments for university guests, refreshments for site visits, etc. If you wish to specify a use for your contribution, an internal department record of expenses can be kept. Checks should be made payable to Purdue Research Foundation. If you participate in the Purdue Enrichment Program (either by check or payroll deduction), you can designate your gift for Purdue Research Foundation Account 08 1551-5870.

Physics Miscellaneous Gift Fund

This is a gift account which can be used for departmental expenses that may not be appropriate on state appropriated funds. Foreign travel is allowable based on the designation of these funds. Checks should be made payable to Purdue University.

Gianni Ascarelli Student Awards

This fund was established by the Ascarelli Family for the purpose of recruiting and encouraging promising undergraduate Physics majors. Checks should be made payable to the Purdue Foundation, Ascarelli Student Awards.

These Ascarelli scholars will be placed in departmental research labs and will be paid for working up to 10 hours per week under the close mentorship of a faculty member. The Ascarelli fund will be used to partially pay for this program and will be used in our departmental fund raising efforts to promote this recruitment effort. This program is strongly endorsed by Maria Ascarelli and her family. Named after the late Prof. Gianni Ascarelli.

Lijuan Wang Memorial Fund

This fund was established for the purpose of promoting professional careers in physics for women. The income from this endowment will be used to provide teaching awards and travel grants for undergraduate and graduate female physics students, cover expenses for women colloquium and seminar speakers, and support the purchase of library and other resource materials specific to the interests of women in physics. Please make your contribution to the Lijuan Wang Memorial Fund payable to Purdue University. Named after the late Ms. Lijuan Wang, a graduate student whose untimely death prompted the establishment of this fund.

Physics Library

Library donations help purchase materials which often receive a low priority and are not purchased when university funds run out (such as duplicates, obscure works or popular reading material). Donations also help fund library projects, equipment, or other non-book items which contribute to library service for Physics faculty, staff and students. Checks should be made payable to Purdue University.

H. Y. Fan Award Fund

This fund was established in 1987 for the purpose of giving an annual award to an outstanding physics graduate student in condensed matter physics. Checks should be made payable to the Purdue Research Foundation. Named after Professor Emeritus H. Y. Fan.

E. S. Akeley Award Fund

This fund was established in 1984 for the purpose of giving an annual award to an outstanding physics graduate student in theoretical physics. Checks should be make payable to the Purdue Research Foundation. Named after the late Prof. Edward S. Akeley, husband of Professor Emeritus Anna Akeley.

K. Lark-Horovitz Award Fund

This fund was established in 1969 for the purpose of giving an annual award to a physics graduate student for outstanding research accomplishments. Checks should be made payable to the Purdue Research Foundation. Named after the illustrious late Professor K. Lark-Horovitz.

G. W. Tautfest Award Fund

This fund was established in 1970 for the purpose of giving an annual award to an outstanding physics graduate student in high energy physics. Checks should be made payable to the Purdue Alumni Foundation.

R. W. King Award Fund

This fund was established in 1970 for the purpose of giving annual awards to an outstanding undergraduate physics junior and an outstanding physics senior. Checks should be made payable to the Purdue Alumni Foundation.

Grodzins Summer Research Fund

This fund was established in 2003 for the purpose of giving annual awards to support graduate students engaged in research during the summer term. Checks should be made payable to the Purdue Foundation.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Enhance the value of your contribution by taking advantage of your employer's matching gift program. Consult your personnel or college relations office to find out the details of your employer's program and to obtain a matching gift form. Then enclose the completed form with your contribution. For recognition in giving clubs, you will receive credit for the combined amount of your contribution and your employer's matching gift.

Tax Advantages

Gifts to Purdue University are deductible as charitable contributions within the limits of the Internal Revenue Code. Indiana taxpayers are eligible for a 50% tax credit for gifts up to $400 on joint returns or $200 on individual returns, directly increasing the amount of your refund or decreasing the amount due. Be sure to use Indiana Schedule CC-40 with your state tax return.
