All Physics Majors

Note: All physics majors are required to fulfill two sets of requirements: Department of Physics Requirements and College of Science Requirements.

Department of Physics Requirements

When did you start in Physics?

All students currently enrolled may elect to use the Departmental requirements from "Fall 2008 or later" in whole if desired (but not in parts mixed with other parts from the older curricula).

Also, please note that the new curriculum of the College of Science applies to all students who entered Purdue in Fall 2007 or later.
There is no option to choose the older College of Science curriculum if you entered Purdue in Fall 2007 or later.

Honors Program

The Honors Program in the Department of Physics begins in the Junior Year.

Requirements

Starting from Fall 2007, the following stipulations need to be met in order to be in, stay in and graduate in the Honors Program:

  • No D+ or worse grade is allowed in any course for a student to stay in the Honors Programs.
  • No more than one C range grade is allowed in all physics courses taken for a student to graduate with Honor. Note that a course can be re-taken for the purpose of satisfying this guideline.
  • Both the physics AND overall GPAs of 3.0 or better are required for a student to graduate with Honor.
  • Students need to petition to Undergraduate Committee for exceptions or requests.
  • Students who began Before Fall 2007, may choose this option or the old option (requirement of A’s or B’s in all Math and Physics courses; one C allowed).

College of Science Requirements

Students who were enrolled in any Purdue campus prior to fall 2007 are subject to the College of Science Core prior to Fall 2007.

Students who began Fall 2007 onwards are subject to the new College of Science Core.

Note: The Honors Program in the College of Science is for Freshmen Students only.
