Emergence
Radio Lab (radiolab.org) did a very cool hour long show about emergence.

Penrose Tiling
There are actually three tilings that map to each other and are created by different basic shapes
i) "kites and darts" ii) Two different Rhombuses: "fat and skinny" iii) "stars, boats, and pentagons"
Nice illustrations of the mappings between these three at [1]
There are other "non-periodic" tilings, such as decahedron overlaps, but the infinite set of Penrose tiles can be derived from the three basic geometric shapes sets above (which map to each other) and the tiling rules.
