Local access to CMS Clusters Print

For users who have shell access to our resources, you can login to the following machine:

ssh -l <username> cms.rcac.purdue.edu

 

In addition you can login in to the Steele front-end machine

ssh -l <username> steele.rcac.purdue.edu


The gatekeepers of Purdue clusters are:

osg.rcac.purdue.edu           ( Purdue-RCAC )
lepton.rcac.purdue.edu       ( Purdue-Steele )

These are the two primary front-end machines for Open Science Grid. Purdue-RCAC dedicates queues to CMS analysis jobs and jobrobot. Purdue-Steele dedicates queues to CMS production jobs.

Non-Purdue users who want to apply for a shell access to our resources, 
if you are working on same physics analysis topics as ours, please proceed as follows:

1) Download privilege form, fill them out and fax them back to Norbert at (765) 494-0706.
In the form, you should fill all the information that you can input, and be sure to ask CMS accounts for accessing Steele and Condor clusters in the comment field, so is your email address. Norbert will send this form to physics department business office to get approval. Then the physics department business office will fax this form to Purdue HR at 4946138. It takes at most one week to get this account. After you got the Purdue career account, please fill the Research Computing Account Request online and send an email to This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it at the same time. In the request, you should fill Norbert Neumeister as your Purdue sponsor, and be sure to ask accounts for accessing Steele and Condor, also put "CMS" at the comment field. Then the account will be generated automatically. You will be contacted by email if you account is created.
2) If you have your account you can login to the following machine:
ssh -l username cms.rcac.purdue.edu

 

Purdue users who want to apply for a shell access to our resources, 
if you are working on same physics analysis topics as ours, please proceed as follows:

1) Please fill the Research Computing Account Request online and send a request email with name, institution and tasks to Purdue CMS Tier2 at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it . In the form, you should fill Norbert Neumeister as your Purdue sponsor, and be sure to ask CMS accounts for accessing Steele and Condor. Then you will be contacted by email if you account is created.
2) If you have your account you can login to the following machine:
ssh -l username cms.rcac.purdue.edu

 

Home directory can be upgraded to 10 GB by request.

For program developing and storing, please use your home directory which is backed up periodically. If your default home directory quota is not big enough, please send email to This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it to request to upgrade to 10 GB for CMS project development.

For large amounts of job submission, you can use $RCAC_SCRATCH space which has default 250 GB quota for each person. But this space is a scratch space and not backed up.
