Setting up IMAP

These instructions are for our old Physics mail service and are deprecated, however they will work for ITaP exchange email if you substitute “owa.purdue.edu” for “franklin.physics.purdue.edu”. These instructions will be re-fitted with new screenshots shortly after ITaP's set of upcoming Exchange upgrades.

PINE Printers

Before You Start...

Find out the name of the printer you want to setup. In this How-To we will us the printer “babbage”.

PINE's printer configuration screen

On PINE's Main Menu:
1. Type S for Setup
2. Type P for Printer
This will give you a screen that looks similiar to Figure 1.

Can I access the Purdue Directory as an addressbook in my Email client?

For users of Unix mail readers, both Pine and Mutt are be configured to use Purdue's LDAP directory as an addressbook.

In Mutt:

* Press 'Q' (capital Q) to query the directory
* When prompted, type a name to query
* Select the proper record from the results

Setting Up Email in Evolution

Purdue Exchange Mail Users

To connect to Exchange:

* Open Evolution
* If prompted, select Yes you would like to configure an email account. If you are not prompted: Select Edit > Preferences > Mail Accounts
* Select Add on the right pane, click Forward
* Enter your Name and Email address (which should be: [your username]@purdue.edu)
* select Account Type: >> IMAP
* Enter Server: >> ova.purdue.edu
* Enter your username
* Select TLS Encryption under Security
* Select Password A…

Installing Network Printers

To install a network printer on a computer:

* Determine the name of the printer you want to use
* Click the Start button
* Select Run
* Type \\gutenberg.physics.purdue.edu
* Click OK
* If prompted, log in using the format ONEPURDUE\{your career account user name} and password
* In the window locate the printer you wish to use and double click on the icon.
