Using Secure CRT to SSH from Windows

First of all, you need to have PC-Xware installed to be able to remotely start programs during SSH session via SecureCRT.

Next you go to Start>Programs>SecureCRT6.0 and open SecureCRT

Then select SSH2 for protocol, type in the hostname of server desired to connect to, and your username. Make sure settings look identical to the ones in the screen shot below, and click connect

Using vacation to have auto-responded messages sent when you recieve email is still available on the new PCN systems, as it was previously on bohr. Some differences are important to note:

* Put your message in a file called .vacation.msg. Users that are used to the vacation program on bohr might notice a couple of differences, most notably, the version of vacation installed does not expand variables in the vacation.msg file, like $SUBJECT. This file should be in the following format:

Your account is most likely over its disk quota, and your X-window session cannot write any files into your home directory.

To fix:

* Log into the system via the console (press CTRL-ALT-F2)
* ssh to bohr.
* Type the command 'quota -v'.
* Find the files that are using all your space with the 'du' command. (type 'man du' for information on usage)
* Remove, move away, or compress files such that you are below your quota.
* You can switch back to the X-Window login by pressing CTR…

ITaP provides the service GoRemote in order to remotely run Windows Software. For more information about this system and to login, go to the ITaP GoRemote website.

You will need to download and install the appropriate version of Citrix Receiver for your Linux distribution to use this ITaP service. Contact PCN to have this software installed on PCN Supported Linux machines.
