Check Application Architecture

This document will show how to see what processor platform your Mac OSX Applications are built for. This is most useful to see what programs will stop working when switching from 10.6 or lower to Mac OSX Lion, which no longer supports PowerPC code.

How to Check

* Begin by clicking the Apple Menu then click About This Mac
* Next, as shown on the screenshot below, see what Processor your Mac is running.

Printer Setup for Windows 7

In order to install departmental printers, first you need to connect to GUTENBERG using the following procedure:

* On your physical keyboard, press Windows key and letter R in tandem - a RUN window will come up.

Extra Installation Procedure for Acrobat X in Windows

A few additional steps are needed to install Acrobat X on Windows machines.

1. Open the Start menu. In the search box, type “Command Prompt” (not cmd.)

2. Right click the icon, and Run As Admin.

Change Default UNIX Shell

This article describes how to change your default shell - from bash to tcsh or from tcsh to bash.

Procedure

* Login to bohr
ssh bohr

* Once logged in, use chsh to change your default shell
> chsh
Changing login shell for username on *all* ACMAINT hosts.

Connect to PCN shared directories and ITaP home directories

This article demonstrates how to connect to PCN shared directories (eg: Gutenberg samba mounts and ITaP home directories) from a Mac.

Poster Printer

* Use the following directions to print poster printers on the Physics Poster Printer, an HP DesignJet T790
