FTP Guide

“I can't FTP to <server>!”

This is correct, as PCN servers do not have ftp services installed.

FTP Is no longer a service offered by PCN as it violates University Policy.

There are several options available as a replacement for FTP services.

  1. SCP - SCP will allow you to Securely CoPy files from a physics host to your local machine. Please consult the scp manual pages for more information on this topic. This method requires a Purdue Career Account.
  2. Public Web Server - You can alternately place the files you need to share on your project's web space or on your personal web space on the Physics file servers. Please see our directions on how to enable this type of a setup for more information.
  3. Purdue's FileLocker service allows persons with a Purdue career account to post files to share and allows users to make one time file requests to others through email. All file transfer is encrypted.
  4. Outside services like WeTransfer.com or http://www.box.com also allow encrypted file sharing.
