Machines

PCN's network is a diverse collection of many machines, which may be intimidating to the casual user. This document attempts to aid the user in identifying which system provides the service that they require.

For the most part, all systems run the FreeBSD operating system, unless otherwise noted.

  • bohr.physics:

General purpose computing

  • aristotle.physics, copernicus.physics, wheeler.physics, axion.physics:

Fileservers. These systems provide RAID storage for /home, /project, and /class.

  • amdahl.physics:

DEPRECATED SERVICE: Former Linux computing cluster.

  • spool.physics:

Provides print service to Unix and Windows systems

  • ftp.physics:

DEPRECATED SERVICE: Provides FTP file transfer service.

  • mail.physics:

Departmental mail server. Provides SMTP and IMAP-SSL service.

  • www.physics:

Serves the departmental web pages at http://www.physics.purdue.edu

  • chip.physics:

Serves all courses for the Computerized Homework in Physics (CHIP).
