Connect to samba mounts

This article demonstrates how to connect to samba mounts (eg: Gutenberg) from a Mac.

Recently an upgrade was performed to the departmental samba server which was required for continued functionality. A side-effect of this upgrade was that the method of connecting to Gutenberg has changed slightly. This change had happened in a past upgrade for Windows users but that previously hadn't effected Mac users until now.

The method is the same, we just need a slight tweak to the authentication portion.

  1. Go to the Finder
  2. From the Go menu, choose Connect To Server
  3. Connect to smb://gutenberg.physics.purdue.edu
  4. When entering your username/password, use the format ONEPURDUE\username along with your password as shown below.
    NOTE: ONEPURDUE\ must be in front of your username and it must be typed in all capital letters.
  5. Choose your share that you want to mount
