In order to better facilitate our users of Windows Vista and Windows 7, we have upgraded Samba.
Microsoft has implemented new protocols for Windows Vista and Windows 7 for network communication. These protocols differ from the legacy protocols that were used in Windows XP and prior.
Due to this, Samba must now check the version of the Operating System that is sending any request. This check will introduce some latency into most network activity regarding file shares.
With the growing number of Windows Vista and Windows 7 based machines, this change was necessary to allow all users to fully utilize the services that are available.
As such, PCN is unable to disable this functionality without loss of compatibility with newer systems.
