PINE Printers

Before You Start...

Find out the name of the printer you want to setup. In this How-To we will us the printer “babbage”.

On PINE's Main Menu:

 1. Type S for Setup
 2. Type P for Printer

This will give you a screen that looks similiar to Figure 1.

To edit a field simply navigate down to the field you want to edit by using the keyboard. To setup a network printer in PINE, press the down arrow key 3 times. This will take you down to the Personally selected print command field as seen in Figure 2.

To add a printer, press the A key and type in the name you want to refer to the printer as. It is easier to use the same name as the printer you are setting up such as babbage. When you are done press the enter key.

PINE will then prompt you to enter the command to use to print to this printer. The general command is as follows:

lpr -Pprinter_name

Substitute printer_name with the name of the printer, in our case babbage.

For our babbage example the command is shown in Figure 3.

Saving the Changes you made…

To exit and save changes:

 1. Press E to Exit Setup
 2. Press Y to Accept and Save Changes

You can now print to the printer you setup, in our example we now can print to the printer babbage.
