PCN Backups

All PCN-supported systems are backed up nightly.

As of May, 2001, the following is the operational PCN backup system:

The first weekend of the month, a full (level 0) backup of the department is performed. These monthly backups will be kept for X years.

Every night, all filesystems are backed up, with a full backup occuring approximately every 6-7 days. These nightly incremental backups are kept for approximately 20-30 days.

What does this mean for my missing files?

This means that if your file was on disk for at least a day in the last month, it is most likely on tape somewhere.

Please remember that system backups are provided by PCN Maintained machines only.
