====== Printer Setup for Windows 7 ======

In order to install departmental printers, first you need to connect to **GUTENBERG** using the following procedure:

===== Primary Method =====


  * On your physical keyboard, press Windows key and letter R in tandem - a **RUN** window will come up.
  * In the space provided, type the following:\\ <code>\\gutenberg.physics.purdue.edu</code>

  * If your computer is unsupported, a window may come up asking for your username and password. For username, make sure to specify the domain using the following format:\\ <code>ONEPURDUE\username</code>

  * You should now get a window with several folders and printers listed.

  * Find the printer you want, and double-click it.

  * A message may come up asking if you would like to install the print drivers for this printer.  Select Ok.

===== Alternative Method =====

  * If installing the desired printer via Gutenberg does not work, try the following method:

  * **Add a local printer** (not a network one!)

  * Select **create a new port**

  * Select **Local port** as type of port

  * In the port name enter the printer’s SMB path, i.e.\\ <code>\\gutenberg.physics.purdue.edu\PRINTERNAME</code>

  * Select the right driver (Usually located in **C:\Printers** or can be download directly from HP.)  

**Do not attempt to install departmental printers via IP port - this method will cause a multitude of issues on your, and our end.**
